He became one of Britain's best-loved character actors, famous above all for playing Albert Steptoe in Steptoe and Son. He also appeared with The Beatles in A Hard Day's Night and played Bert Thompson in Holiday on the Buses.

👶 Early life
Wilfrid Brambell was born in Rathgar, Dublin, in 1912. His father, Henry Brambell, worked for Guinness, while his mother, Edith, had been an opera singer. He was the youngest of three sons.
Remarkably, Brambell's first stage appearance came when he was only two years old, when he entertained wounded soldiers returning from the First World War.
After leaving school, he divided his time between working for The Irish Times and acting. During the 1930s he attended the Abbey School of Acting and appeared at both the Abbey and Gate theatres in Dublin.
