Gwendolyn Watts (1932-2000)
Gwendolyn made her name on television, and was first seen in 1958 in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. She went on to become a familiar face in many different series, including The Rag Trade, The Avengers, The Plane Makers, Maigret, Steptoe and Son, The Benny Hill Show, Softly, Softly, Adam Adamant Lives!, Z Cars, On the Buses, Coronation Street and Love Thy Neighbour.
Watts’ film appearances include Sons and Lovers (1960), So Evil, So Young (1961), Billy Liar (1963), My Fair Lady (1964), Fanatic (1965), The Wrong Box(1966) and All Neat in Black Stockings (1968).
She appeared in three Carry On films - Carry On Doctor (1967), Carry On Again Doctor (1969) and Carry On Matron (1972).
Her career lost steam in the 1970s when she temporarily retired from show business to raise her children. She died in 2000 of a heart attack.
